INTRODUCTION

The SLIM (Software-Lifecycle-Management)-Method has been developed by Putnam. It estimates the effort of the software lifecycle starting with the implementation phase. According to Putnam the software lifecycle curve is estimated by the equation:
To estimate the develoment effort, Putnam derives the relationsship among effort K, the development time td and the State of Technology Ck as the SOFTWAR EQUATION:

For the constant factor Ck the following example values have been found:
8 - for systems with many interactions
15 - for stand-alone systems
27 - for subsystems


The ratio among the develoment time and the used manpower is dependent from the kind of development. The following diagram shows four sample dependencies:
